Research and Planning: Imaginary Fonts

These are the fonts that I found off a website called Dafont. I think these fonts that I have chose represent and are related to the words. Popworld is really a funky word so i thought that the font i have chosen represents the funkiness with with bubbled writing. Death Metal I think has the right font as it is to do with death and dark words. Also Popcorn is really simple and that is what i have put a simple font with a little of of bubbly in it, which popcorn is a little bit bubbly.

Research and Planning: Semiotics Research

Semiotics is a process in media studies that studies signs such as:

  • Colour of text
  • Type of font
  • Background Colour
  • Image
  • The shapes and areas on the cover
These signs are to show what the world is like in that magazine and it helps you to read between the lines and would make you want to read on with the images and the colour in that magazine. they choose bright colours in the masthead and also sub headings so it brings people closer to read the magazine. Also they have put a big image on the cover of someone at college would know and want to find out why he's on the cover of the magazine. They use sub headings with college based themes so you can tell that it is a college magazine and also the Masthead has a big heading of College which shouts out to all college students.

Research and Planning: Target Audience for College Magazine

My college magazine would be towards:
  • 16-21 year olds as people are mostly at this age when in college
  • The gender i would use would be Male/Female as the stories would be linked to both. The story lines could be sport, Lessons, the lifestyle of the college and also the upcoming events which students would want to know about
  • All the enrichments that they are interested in such as driving theory, Sports, Dance
  • I would target to GCSE students who are interested in at this specific college and also the A levels which they could be doing and how the A level Students are finding it here
  • This magazine would be aimed at working to middle class students.

Research and Planning: Examples of Medium Close Ups

These are examples of medium closes-ups which you can tell that they are by the photographer capturing from the stomach and upwards

Research and Planning: Analysis of College Magazine

This magazine is a typical college magazine. You can tell it is by:
  • The masthead which says College Lifestyle.
  • The picture is a Supermodel which a lot of college students are interested in as all college students would like to be someone who has money or success.
  • The story lines on the front cover are to do with the new technology such as the apple ipad and also it has subheadings including the university of south florida and the use of a professor
  • The masthead is quite simple and the colour scheme is colourful to catch the students eye
  • Also the barcode is on and the price is on as well which shows a typical magazine.

Research and Planning: Indesign Tutorial

This was my first time on indesign. My attempt was at a film review on District 9. I made this on a programme that i have never used before so it took a while on figuring out how to use it.

I started by finding a review of District 9 on the Empire magazine and copying it to a word document. I then had to open indesign and change the background colour. I put a title of District 9 at the top of the page and then I put columns to make it a proper music column in a magazine. I then pasted the review from the word document onto indesign but i was having trouble on putting them into the three columns but it was overcome. I then had to find a picture on District 9 from google and copy it onto indesign in the small area for a picture. After that we changed the text by putting drop shadows in and changing the colour. to make it more professional, we made borders around the text and also made it more neat and tidy. finally we changed the gradient on the background which again i had trouble of doing but i also overcame that as well.

This was my second lesson on Photoshop and we added text of our Media Studies and put a certain type of text and also change the colour of the text. we then had to put the text in the centre of the page. Next we had to change the background colour to blue and then put a drop shadow on the piece of text but i was unable to do it. Then we had to add a picture and change the hair colour underneath the text and we also had to put a border round the piece of work but again i was unable to do it.

Research and Planning: Introduction to Photoshop (CD Cover)

Here we started our introduction to Photoshop on making a CD cover.  As this is my first time using photoshop, I learnt the basic things of Photoshop such as, I managed to get a CD picture onto a background and faded the CD so you can still see the background which i changed the colour too and also added some text to the cover. I also added musical notes to the cover to make it more relevant to the topic we was doing which was music CD.
